Beekeeper Hat Fashion Or Function

So, I see that you are planning to take up beekeeping. Well, you are undertaking a noble occupation. The point is that beekeeping is very important for agriculture on the whole, and not just for honey production. As bees fly about and collect nectar from the flowers to produce honey and for their own food, they also pollinate the flowers which later turn into the fruits and vegetables that we eat. People rarely realize the important role that bees and beekeepers play in agriculture. With this said, beekeeping is also very dangerous and can even be fatal if you do not have the proper protective clothing when you tend your hives. The most important article of protective clothing is the beekeeper hat.

The beekeeper hat is a special hat that is made especially for beekeepers to wear when they tend their hives. The beekeeper hat is usually white in color and has a wide rim around it which spans about six inches outward. The hat also has a veil that drapes down from the rim. The rim is made form some rigid material that can hold the veil. The veil is made from a fine transparent netting that you need to be held away from your face. The veil is to be draped down from the rim and then are tied around the collar of your protective jacket.

Other protective clothing besides the beekeeper hat is also needed to keep the exposed parts of your body from being stung. The face is the most sensitive exposed part of your body, hence this is why how the beekeeper hat is worn is very important. The veil should never touch your face. This can allow for the bees stinger to penetrate the netting and sting you in the face. Furthermore, the bottom of the veil should be snugly tied around the collar of the protective coat to prevent bees from getting up under the veil and stinging you.

The protective coat and pants should all be light colors, preferably white. There is an important reason why protective clothing needs to be white. Dark colors can trigger defensive pheromones in the bees to make them aggressive. This is because most of the bees natural predators, such as bears, are all dark in color, either dark brown or black and furry. If you wear white clothing which is made of smooth material, the bees will not recognize you as a threat as much and therefore will be less aggressive.

The protective clothing should be loosely fitted and worn over other clothing to give you good protective layers of protection from bee stings. Furthermore, all seams of the protective clothing should overlap and snugly be fitted to keep bees from entering in under the clothing through the seems. You should also wash your protective clothing, including the beekeeper hat after tending the hive. You need to understand that as you harvest the honey, the bees will defend it and will at least sting your protective clothing. As the bees sting, the venom released from the stinger is not the only thing that is released from the stinger. As a bee leaves its stinger in your protective clothing, it will also release pheromones that will be on the clothing that will make the other bees be more aggressive when they sense them on your clothing.

The cricket suit can be a great alternative to the beekeeper hat and other protective clothing needed for tending the hives and harvesting the honey. The cricket suit is a rather new invention when it comes to protective clothing for beekeepers and makes it even more difficult for bees to get under the protective clothing through the seems. This suit actually looks like an astronauts suit with a hood and is all white. The hood of the cricket suit serves the same function as the beekeeper hat, but is of a different construction. The hood has a screen in front, allowing you to see what you are doing and has removable plastic rods that hold the hood outward and away from your face, hair, and the back of your head. The plastic rods can be removed from their sleeves simply by opening velcro straps and sliding them out of their sleeves. Then the hood can be washed with the rest of the cricket suit.

Furthermore, you do not need to tie anything with the cricket suit. The hood can be removed, allowed to hang back, or kept over the head by a zipper that fastens it to the collar of the suit. Where the zipper meets the end is sealed with a velcro flat to keep bees from entering through the hole. Furthermore, the rest of the cricket suit is a one-piece suit that is zipped closed in front. This provides for seamless protection from top to bottom. Best of all, you can adjust the cuffs of the wrists and ankles with velcro to make sure that the cuffs are snug and bees cannot get up through the sleeves.

Leather gloves may not necessarily be worn by seasoned veteran beekeepers who already have hands that are immune to the venom of bee stings, as a beginner, you should have them. They protect your hands from being stung when you reach into the hive to harvest the honey.

Whether you get the beekeeper hat or other the cricket suit, you definitely should look into getting good reliable protective clothing to wear while tending your hive. Remember, this protective clothing can save your live. This is especially true if you are allergic to bees. Even for normal people, being stung by a large number of bees can land you in the hospital for a few days, or can even be worse. So, remember, wear protective clothing!

Is Composting The Future Of Landfill Diversion

As there’s pressure from society regarding organic waste collection and the production of greenhouse gases mixed with targets of landfill diversion, a few are really trying to observe the manner in which they’ll attain their objectives. Generally, composting tasks are the greatest fix for creating landfill diversion initiatives, yet unless a local composting place exists already for getting the organic waste, not many can pay to construct a new place. A composting project takes a long time from idea to implementation. Before you can make an intelligent decision there are many things you should know.

Along with the beginning costs of a composting operation, earning community acceptance is critical. If locals complain about the smell, noise, more vermin, traffic, and fire risk, the task may be over prior to ever getting out of the committee.
Expenses include transportation, new procedure implementation, collection, quality control, consultation, tests, and more. After operating for a year, most find themselves over-budget.

It is another story in the Memphis area. A new in-vessel vertical composting unit has been designed by Agra Cycle. (VCU for short) named the Vee-Stack. While primarily operating within the UK and Australia, VCU’s has an over 30 years global presence, and is known for its extremely high composting standards. They have found ways to make the manufacturing process less expensive than those made overseas.
The Vee-Stack will help corporations and municipalities meet landfill diversion goals, provide greenhouse gas reduction, organic waste composting, and sustainable recycling and agricultural processes that provide carbon credits.Public Relations is where the key is. The PR for an environmentally sound, sustainable recycling project are enormous and timely. Composting is a bi-partisan activity which everyone can lend support to; and, it creates a better sense of community awareness. Those citizens who come forward without any motivations for improving the soil and cleaning the environment creates pride.

According to Agra-Cycle, “There are two keys to operational success using a Vee-Stack. The first is with the organic waste processing: there must be a balanced proportion of carbon and nitrogen. Then the pH values must be adjusted, followed by precise moisture control, and finally loading into the Vee-Stack. Agra-Cycle takes care of a big headache for the customer.

The second part happens with the normal draft induction process. Air enters the Vee-Stack from the bottom which greatly enhances the composting process in the chamber. If you know what a chimney fire is then you get a good concept of how the Vee-Stack operates. When thermal patterns increase in the stack, microbes which do well at greater temps become alive. In most cases this is referred to as the Stoichomatic range. For traditional composting techniques, these thermal ranges pose a fire threat and must be avoided no matter what, yet with in vessel building these temperatures are harnessed for process promotion. The fear of fire is eliminated from this process due to the high moisture content. The microbes eat all the smelly gases and hydrogen sulfides that create problems with other methods of composting. The machine basically functions as it’s personal bio filtration system. The Vee Stack is totally self contained; and, it even gathers and recycles leechate back into the system so that it can be composted, also.

Sustainable recycling involving local companies and communities, to prevent landfills, that is our goal. The Vee Stack can be custom made according to what you need and the size requirements. We also watch over, upkeep, manage the Vee Stack and take away the finished substance. Process your organic wastes consistently and for much less than you are currently paying for disposal by using the specialized knowledge and experience provided by Agra-Cycle.About ten tons of organic waste per day can be processed by continuous use of Vee Stack. The effects increase with the addition of more units. Depending on the organic waste used, the process can take between 14-21 days to complete.
Along with the said advantages, the cost incurred in getting rid of waste comes down by about 25%. Now this is how we define sustainable. Agra-Cycles is the sole proprietor of this technology and they are very committed to the mission of implementing sustainable recycling project in their home state of Tennessee, not as a preference but as a priority. Based in Tennessee, non-profit corporation Agra-Cycle promotes agriculture which can be sustained as well as providing resources of an educational nature. Emulsifying Agents And Types Of Emulsifiers

Emulsifying agents are soluble in fat and water to allow uniform dispersion of fat in water. Emulsifying agents are also called emulsifiers and present in the food like butter, mayonnaise and salad dressing. These have one hydrophilic and one lipophilic part. These agents surrounds the oil droplets in water and reduces the tension between the two liquids thus impart stability.

Classification of Emulsifiers
These can be classified on the basis of chemical structure and mechanism of action. Under chemical structure category are synthetic, natural, auxiliary agents and finely dispersed solids. In the category of mechanism of action comes the monomolecular, multimolecular and solid particle films.

Natural emulsifying agents are derived from plant and animal tissues and mostly in the form of hydrated lypophilic colloids. These emulsifiers make the protective sheath around the droplets, give droplets a charge so that they repel each other and swell to step-up the viscosity of the liquid.

Natural ones are derived from vegetables, animals, semi synthetic and synthetic agents. Although natural agents are inexpensive, safe and non toxic but these are slow in action. So large quantity of emulsifier is required for proper action. Also the natural emulsifiers need preservatives as these are subjected to microbial growth.

The animal derivatives are stronger than the plant ones. The best example of this is lecithin and cholesterol. Some people are allergic to these so must be consumed after knowing the derivatives.

Both semi-synthetic and synthetic emulsifying agents are strong and require no preservative as these are not prone to microbial growth.

Applications of Emulsifying Agents
Emulsifiers are used in many types of food for stability and to reduce tension. Like vinaigrette if prepared only with oil and vinegar leads to unstable emulsion. To stabilize mayonnaise egg yolk lecithin is used as emulsifiers. Both natural as well as synthetic emulsifiers are used in food industry. Egg, soybean, rapeseed oil and palm oil are the common natural agents. Dairy products like cheese and ice creams use the emulsifying agents to improve the texture. Also the crystallization of candies is improved by them. Jarred peanut-butter and sauces are given more life with the use of correct emulsifier.

It is extensively used in pharmaceutical industry to make medicines more good to taste and easy to take. In pharmaceutical oil and water emulsions are basically used. These are also used in other industries like agriculture, paints and inks. Fertilizers and pesticides are given more stability with these.

Harmful Effects
Although the one used in food are completely safe and more over natural ones are safer than synthetic. But in some cosmetics certain harmful emulsifiers like polyethylene glycol (PEG) compounds, have been found that are carcinogenic. Also the emulsifying agents in body care products causes mild or severe allergies of skin.

OLAP processes vast queries

Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) helps to process vast queries online. Queries are multi dimensional and analytical. It is a part of business intelligence. It includes relational reporting and data mining. OLAP gives service in the area of business reporting for sales, business process management, marketing, management reporting etc. It also includes new areas like agriculture. The term OLAP is derived from another term which is OLTP (Online Transaction Processing).

OLAP contains some databases which use a multidimensional data model. It facilitates complex analytical and vast queries very fast. Some aspects are common to navigational as well as hierarchical databases. These databases are more speedier than relational databases. The result of an OLAP query is generally displayed in the matrix format. It is also called pivot format. Rows and columns of the matrix are made from the dimensions and the values are formed by the measures.

An OLAP cube is there in the core of an OLAP system. It is also called a multidimensional cube or a hypercube. Some numeric facts are there which is called measures. They are classified into the dimensions. We get measures from the records of the fact table and dimensions from the dimensions tables. A set of labels or its meta-data are meant by a measure. These labels are described by a dimension. It contains information about measure. For example a cube contains a store’s sales which is the measure and the date/time which is dimension. Each sale contains date/time label which describes that sale in more detail.

In an OLAP system dimensions can be added to the structure such as store, customer, and cashier. It is entered in a column which is added in a fact table. Its purpose is to enable the analyst to view measures along any combinations of dimensions. Basically a multidimensional structure is defined as a different relational model which uses multidimensional structures to systematize data and explain the relationship between the data. The structure is broken into cubes which store and access data in the boundaries of each cube.
